I’ve always loved people – talking with, listening to stories, and making connections. With that passion, I was excited to broaden my friend circle and have new experiences here at BYU. To my luck, it was the year 2020 and with a worldwide pandemic it significantly altered everything. I’ll be real, freshman year was no walk in the park. I was homesick, lonely, and felt like everyone around me knew what they were doing.
For most of my life, I had aspirations to work in Hospitality Management. But after working in the industry for three years, I discovered that what was once my dream job, was not what I wanted. This led me to transfer to BYU where I spent my first year engaging in various exploration experiences. These experiences led me to find Communications Studies- a major that incorporated both my interests and strengths. I am still in the process of exploring career paths, but I’m excited to see where I go!
As an undeclared major for most of my freshman year, I had no idea what I wanted to do, or what I was good at. After taking a career exploration class, and meeting with an exploration specialist myself, I was able to do a lot of self exploration and evaluation. I realized that I really like working with and getting to know different people, and I love social sciences. I decided to pursue a career in marriage and family therapy, with a Family Life major.
As a first-generation student, I found it overwhelming trying to figure out what I wanted to do during my university experience. My prior background in business, interest in interpersonal relationships, and experience working internationally sparked my desire to find opportunities to work globally. As I took a career exploration class and got involved in the business school, I realized that the Marketing and Supply Chain program would be compatible with my interests, capacities, and personality. I'm excited to keep exploring careers with these majors!

Trying to find my “perfect” major was daunting when I first started at BYU. I struggled with getting outside my comfort zone and felt a lot of pressure to make the right choice, but I didn’t feel strongly about any program. After getting pretty far in the German Teaching major, I realized that I needed to figure out what I was passionate about. I learned that I could be happy in a wide variety of majors and started prioritizing finding a major that excited me. This led me to the marketing program and I’ve been loving my college experience since then.

If you are feeling lost, anxious, or afraid about the future, I know exactly how you feel!
It took me almost 2 full years at BYU before I discovered I wanted to study Psychology. During that time I felt left behind. It seemed like everyone else knew exactly what they wanted to do, while I felt overwhelmed and lost. I would love the opportunity to help you get to know yourself and explore, wherever you are along your path.
