Amy Soto

Associate Director, Career Exploration

WSC 2500

What is Exploration Point?

Amy oversees the development and execution of Career Exploration efforts for declared Open Major students and BYU students that are exploring career paths. She has created Exploration Point, supervises the Student Development 117 Career Exploration Course and teaches a few sections of it, meets with students for individual appointments, oversees campus career assessment offerings, and serves on the University Advisement Center leadership team.

As part of her responsibilities on behalf of the University Advisement Center, Amy manages Exploration Point and leads a team of peer Exploration Specialists that are housed in 2590 WSC. The Exploration Specialists offer one-on-one appointments to guide students through activities that allow students to take their next step to increase personal self-awareness, explore majors, and research career paths.

Amy is a native of Oxnard, California. After serving a mission in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she graduated from BYU with a bachelor’s degree in Marriage, Family, and Human Development. Following graduation, Amy worked at UVU’s Upward Bound TRIO program and Utah Valley Paratransit. She later worked at BYU’s Bachelor of General Studies Program as an Academic and Admissions Advisor. She has a master’s degree in Academic Advising from Kansas State University.

Amy joined the University Advisement Center in 2017. She enjoys working with students that are exploring their major and career options. She is sensitive to the time and effort that is required to seek out a life path because, as an undergraduate student, she spent years struggling to pinpoint what she wanted to do. She understands what it is like to explore major options and now finds great joy helping students do the same.

Amy teaches StDev 117 Career Exploration.
